Bio

In this modern age of hyper-urbanization and cyberspace, natural world has been pushed out from most of our lives. Even when we take time to visit a beautiful or interesting location, how many of us actually feel any real connection with the place?

My photography is very much driven by this "connection" that I try to discover with the nature, the great outdoors, many historic and cultural locations that I have been fortunate to explore. To me, photography as an art is not about taking pretty and technically perfect images, it's about discovering and expressing the connection that we have and feel with a place and a particular moment in time. We all have this connection - only few take time to explore it in depth.

I must admit that I did not start taking images with this very intention or vision - it has evolved over time. Growing up near the Indian Himalayas and hooked up into the sport of mountain climbing, I picked up a camera at a fairly young stage of my life - mainly to document the beauty of the great Himalayan ranges and experiences of my mountaineering journeys. Over time, mountain climbing has taken a back seat, as photography has become my first passion.

Now, I live in the greater New York City area, but travel all around the world in search of special places - remote mountains, wilderness, historic and culturally-rich travel destinations. When I am not traveling to the exotic, far away locations, I am hiking local crags and woods in search of the magical light and interesting landscapes. The process of nature and travel photography keeps me fresh and interested in life all the time.

I am a business strategist by profession, engineer by education, but mountaineering and photography have been and will always be my foremost passions. I hope that you will enjoy the images in this website. I welcome you to leave a message in the guestbook or contact me with any question.
